Another great week of ACC basketball is over, and with it comes the end of the regular season. Things ended as they were expect on top, with UNC and Duke leading the standings. There were a number of surprises in the league however, and we're sure to get more surprises in this weekend's ACC tournament.

A Look Around the League...
North Carolina (29-2, 14-2)
North Carolina won two games this week, downing Florida State 90-77, and then defeating Duke 76-68 on Saturday night. UNC trailed 68-66, but outscored Duke 10-0 down the stretch to secure the victory.
The Tar Heels are looking like a #1 seed in the NCAA tournament at this point. They have won eight games in a row, and are clearly the #1 team in the ACC.
UNC will get a first round bye in the ACC tournament. They will play on Friday at noon, against either #8 Wake Forest or #9 Florida State.
Postseason: NCAA tournament lock
Duke (26-4, 13-3)
Duke easily beat Virginia 86-70 in Charlottesville on Wednesday night, and then dropped a tough one to UNC 76-68 at home on Saturday. The loss to UNC will make the Blue Devils the #2 seed in the ACC tournament.
The Blue Devils look like a #2 seed in the NCAA tournament right now. Of course, that could change if they win the ACC tournament, which is very possible. It looks like we have a good chance to see the third meeting of the year between Duke and Carolina in Charlotte.
Duke will get a bye in the first round of the ACC tournament. On Friday, they'll play either #7 Georgia Tech or #10 Virginia. That game will be at 7pm.
Postseason: NCAA tournament lock
Clemson (22-8, 10-6)
The Clemson Tigers lost to Georgia Tech 80-75 on Thursday night, but came back to defeat Virginia Tech 70-69 on Sunday in a battle for third place. Two Demontez Stitt free throws with 3.8 seconds remaining gave the Tigers the win, as a Deron Washington buzzer beater was off.
With a high RPI, a third place conference finish and 22 overall wins, Clemson is a lock for the NCAA tournament. They will play for seeding in the ACC tournament.
The Tigers will get a bye in the first round of the ACC tournament. They will play either #6 Maryland or #11 Boston College on Friday at approximately 9:30pm.
Postseason: NCAA tournament lock
Virginia Tech (18-12, 9-7)
Virginia Tech pounded Wake Forest 80-58 on Tuesday night in Blacksburg, then lost a heartbreaker to Clemson 70-69 on Sunday at Littlejohn Coliseum. The loss to Clemson hurts, as it would have given Tech sole possession of third place in the ACC, as well as a win over a Top 50 RPI team.
As it stands now, Tech will probably have to win two games in the ACC tournament to get into the NCAA tournament. 20 overall wins and a fourth place finish in the ACC should do it. However, the Hokies are on UNC's side of the bracket, which makes two wins highly unlikely. If given a choice between the NIT or CBI, look for the Hokies and others to choose the NIT. It's the more established tournament, and you get to play in Madison Square Garden if you make the Semifinals.
The Hokies get a bye on Thursday, and will face either #5 Miami or #12 NC State on Friday at approximately 2pm.
Postseason: NIT
Miami (21-9, 8-8)
Miami smacked Boston College 74-61 on Wednesday night despite trailing at halftime, and then lost a close one to Florida State 75-72 on Saturday. The 'Canes would have had a first round a bye with a win at FSU, but the 'Noles senior guards were too much on Senior Day.
Miami isn't a lock because they only went 8-8 in the ACC. However they have a high RPI, and have wins over quality teams like Duke and Mississippi State. Even with a first round upset at the hands of NC State, Miami should still be in the tournament, though it's not guaranteed.
The 'Canes play #12 NC State on Thursday at approximately 2:30pm. If they win, they'll face #4 Virginia Tech on Friday at 2:30pm.
Postseason: NCAA
Maryland (18-13, 8-8)
Maryland has lost four of their last five games, with their latest loss being a 91-76 whipping at the hands of Sean Singletary and Virginia in Charlottesville. They are just playing bad basketball right now.
The Terps were once considered a lock for the Big Dance, but they may have played their way out of it in their last two games. Before getting beat by UVA, Maryland blew a 20 point lead at home to Clemson. They'll likely need a couple of wins in the ACC tournament to get an at-large berth.
Maryland plays #11 Boston College on Thursday night at approximately 9:30pm. If they win, they'll face #3 Clemson at 9:30pm on Friday.
Postseason: NIT
Georgia Tech (14-16, 7-9)
Georgia Tech had a great week, beating Clemson 80-75 on Senior Day, and then easily defeating Boston College 86-78 on Saturday afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets are a solid basketball team, but because of their bad overall record, they'll have to win the ACC tournament to make postseason play. That won't be easy, as GT faces Sean Singletary and a much-improved Virginia team in the first round.
If they can get by UVA, the Yellow Jackets will face #2 Duke on Friday at 7pm.
Postseason: None
Wake Forest (17-12, 7-9)
Wake Forest traveled to Blacksburg on Tuesday night and got hammered 80-58 by Virginia Tech. It was their fourth loss in a row. However, they rallied to beat NC State 78-67 on Saturday afternoon.
It's been a great year for Wake Forest, who lost coach Skip Prosser over the summer. Dino Gaudio has done a great job with one of the youngest teams in the country. A win in the ACC tournament would add to a great season.
Wake Forest will battle #9 Florida State in the first game of the ACC tournament, on Thursday at noon. The winner will take on #1 UNC on Friday at noon.
Postseason: NIT
Florida State (18-13, 7-9)
Florida State lost to UNC 90-77 in Chapel Hill during the week, and then knocked off Miami 75-72 at home on Senior Day. It was a good year for the 'Noles, considering they lost Al Thornton to the NBA after last season.
At this point Florida State would have to reach the finals of the ACC tournament to receive serious at-large consideration. It looks like the NIT again for the 'Noles.
FSU will play #8 Wake Forest on Thursday at noon. If they win, they'll take on #1 UNC on Friday at noon.
Postseason: NIT
Virginia (15-14, 5-11)
Virginia lost to Duke 86-70 during the week, and then routed Maryland 91-76 on Sean Singletary's Senior Night. Singletary scored his 2,000th career point during the victory in an emotional scene at the John Paul Jones Arena.
The Hoos have been playing good basketball lately, winning three of their last five games. One of those losses was a narrow two point loss at Miami. If there is a low seed capable of making a run in the ACC tournament, it's Virginia.
UVA will face #7 Georgia Tech on Thursday night at 7pm. With a win, they'll get #2 Duke on Friday at 7pm.
Postseason: NIT
Boston College (13-16, 4-12)
Boston College lost to Miami 74-61 on Wednesday, and then dropped another game to Georgia Tech 86-78 on Saturday. After starting out 3-0 in the ACC, the Eagles have lost 12 of their last 13 games.
BC's season is over, unless they can somehow win the ACC tournament. That's not going to happen.
The Eagles will play #6 Maryland on Thursday night at 9:30pm. If they can upset the Terps, they'll get #3 Clemson on Friday at 9:30pm.
Postseason: None
NC State (15-15, 4-12)
NC State played just once this week, falling to Wake Forest 78-67 in Winston-Salem. The Wolfpack have lost eight games in a row. They have not won a game since February 5 when they defeated Virginia Tech 73-63.
NC State lacks chemistry, confidence and a point guard. They do have talent, but talent isn't always enough.
The Wolfpack will play #5 Miami on Thursday at 2:30pm. They will be fired up for that game, because they know if they win it they'll get Virginia Tech on Friday at 2:30pm.
Postseason: None
