Blacksburg, VA -- The Virginia Tech women's basketball team got three 20-point performances, including two career-high totals, in downing Old Dominion, 79-72, running their record over in-state competition at Cassell Coliseum to 17-0 under Bonnie Henrickson.
Ieva Kublina had 21 points, and Dawn Chriss and Erin Gibson chipped in career-highs of 21 and 20 points, respectively, to lead the Hokies. They also led the way rebounding, with 9 (Gibson), 8 (Kublina) and 7 (Chriss). Carrie Mason had 9 points and a game-high 6 assists, as the Hokies shot 50% (29 of 58) on the night.
VT led 31-22 in the first half, then surrendered a 13-3 run to trail 35-34 at the half. ODU stretched the lead to 47-43 with 15:09 to go, before the Hokies exploded on a 23-5 run to take a 66-52 lead with 8 minutes to go. The run started when ODU's leading scorer, Monique Coker, picked up her fourth foul and had to go to the bench with 15:39 go to.
The Hokies, ranked #19 in the ESPN/USA Today coaches poll and #23 in the AP poll, are now 5-0 on the season. Their next game is Sunday, December 7th, at Alabama. Game time is 3 p.m.
