GAME RECAPJim Druckenmiller threw a 32-yard touchdown pass to Jermaine Holmes with 47 seconds left as 20th-ranked Virginia Tech scored 22 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to stun number 13 Virginia, 36-29.
Druckenmiller's second touchdown pass to Holmes capped a nine-play, 71-yard drive and gave the Hokies a 30-29 lead. Early in the drive, which followed Rafael Garcia's 46-yard missed field goal attempt, Druckenmiller completed a 4th-and-10 pass to Cornelius White.
Antonio Banks secured the win when he intercepted a pass from Mike Groh and raced 65 yards for a score on the final play of the game.
Virginia Tech (9-2), which already owns a share of the Big East title, has won nine straight games for the first time in school history.
Virginia, which shares the Atlantic Coast Conference title with Florida State, fell to 8-4. Banks' touchdowns spared Virginia from its third one-point loss of the season. The Cavs' four losses are by a total of 14 points.
Virginia held a 29-14 lead after three quarters before Druckenmiller threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Lewis with 12:59 left. Atle Larsen kicked a 35-yard field goal six minutes later to cut the lead to six points. Druckenmiller completed 17 of 36 passes for 230 yards and was intercepted three times.
The only touchdown of the third quarter was a nine-yard run by Virginia's Tiki Barber, who ran for 58 yards on 18 carries.
Germane Crowell had a pair of touchdown receptions and backup Tim Sherman threw for two scores for Virginia. Sherman threw a two-yard touchdown pass to fullback Darrell Medley early in the second quarter and added a two-point conversion pass to Bobby Neely to give Virginia the lead at 15-14.
Sherman followed with a 31-yard touchdown pass to Crowell with 5:20 left the in second quarter. Sherman was playing in place of Groh, who suffered a knee injury in the first quarter. Groh came back for the final series of the second quarter and remained in the game for the balance of the second half.
Sherman was 8-of-10 for 129 yards, while Groh was 13-of-24 for 188 yards.
Druckenmiller threw a pair of long passes to Bryan Still to set up two touchdowns late in the first quarter. A 59-yard bomb to the one-yard line was followed by a touchdown run by Ken Oxendine, tying the game at 7-7. The drive began after Myron Newsome intercepted a tipped pass from Groh.
On the Hokies' next possession, Druckenmiller threw a 51-yarder to Still that put the ball at the Virginia 3. Dwayne Thomas later scored on a two-yard run to give Virginia Tech a 14-7 lead. Still had five catches for 125 yards.
Virginia took advantage of a blocked punt when Groh threw a 29-yard touchdown pass to Crowell 4:19 into the game. Crowell caught five passes for 112 yards.
