GAME RECAP

Larry Green returned an interception 37 yards for a score and Dwayne Thomas added an eight-yard touchdown run as Virginia Tech routed West Virginia, 27-0, in a Big East matchup.

Virginia Tech's defense posted its second shutout of the season and held West Virginia to 138 yards of offense, including 15 on the ground. Earlier this season the Hokies shut out Navy.

Thomas and Green scored in the second quarter as Virginia Tech (6-2, 4-1 in the Big East) built a 17-0 halftime lead. Thomas rushed 18 times for 86 yards.

Jim Druckenmiller tossed a 37-yard touchdown pass to Bryan Jennings eight seconds into the final period for the Hokies, who have won six straight. Druckenmiller finished 12-of-27 for 123 yards.

Virginia Tech has outscored West Virginia, 61-6, over the past two seasons.

Atle Larsen had field goals of 43 and 39 yards for the Hokies, who have won eight of their last 10 road games. This was the fourth road victory for Virginia Tech, their most in any season since 1967.

Chad Johnston was 7-of-19 for 85 yards for West Virginia, which fell to 3-5, 2-2 in the conference. Kantroy Barber had seven carries for 27 yards for the Mountaineers.
