GAME RECAP

Ken Oxendine ran for three touchdowns and a career-high 163 yards and Jim Druckenmiller added a 64-yard scoring pass as Virginia Tech demolished Temple, 38-0, in a Big East Conference game.

Oxendine opened the scoring with a one-yard plunge 6:52 into the game for Virginia Tech (4-1, 3-1 Big East). He added third-quarter scampers of 25 and 71 yards 7:47 apart to cap the scoring for the Hokies, who bounced back from a 52-21 whipping at Syracuse two weeks ago.

Druckenmiller's 64-yard TD pass to Shawn Scales gave Virginia Tech a 14-0 lead with 1:55 to play in the first quarter. Marcus Parker added a one-yard scoring run before Shayne Graham kicked a 20-yard field goal to extend the lead to 24-0 with 9:11 left in the first half.

Oxendine gained his yards on just 14 carries. Druckenmiller completed 5-of-9 passes for 112 yards. Virginia Tech had 349 rushing yards on 46 carries.

Temple (1-5, 0-2) was shut out for the second time this season and lost its fifth straight game since a 28-24 victory at Eastern Michigan to open the season. It was the first game for Owls coach Ron Dickerson since he announced his resignation following last week's loss to Pittsburgh before changing his mind.

Owls quarterback Henry Burris completed 10-of-15 passes for 59 yards. Eugene Culbreath added 36 yards on 13 carries.

It was the Hokies' first shutout since blanking West Virginia 27-0 last season. Virginia Tech leads the all-time series, 8-2, and has won the last five games between the schools by a combined score of 198-43.

In its last three games, Temple has been outscored, 132-52.
