Each week this season, I will be posting a column previewing the upcoming weekend's Big East and
Top-25 matchups. All rankings are from the ESPN/Coaches Poll. Picks are against the spread, and
are for entertainment purposes only.

Last week: Seems every time I pick our opponent to cover we win in a laugher. Anyone care to guess my pick this week ?

This week: This is it folks. Last week of the regular season. Time to kick some Wahoos around Lane, and to sit and wait for the bowl invite.

Not in action this week: #1 Kansas State, #3 UCLA, #4 Florida State, #5 Ohio State, #8 Florida, #9 Wisconsin, #14 Air Force, #23 Oregon, #25 Missouri

Thursday, 11/26

#11 TULANE (-13.5) vs. Louisiana Tech

Both teams have amazing offenses, and almost non-existant defenses. The edge here goes to the Green Wave ... who at least understand the _concept_ of defensive football ... if not the execution.

Pick: Tulane

#24 Mississippi State (-4.5) @ MISSISSIPPI

Like I said ... MSU over Arkansas. Now, MSU over Ole Miss puts the bulldogs against Tennessee in the SEC title game.

Friday, 11/27

#6 Texas A&M (-1.5) @ TEXAS

The only matchup that matters is Ricky Williams vs. the Aggie defense. Whoever wins this one goes home happy.

#7 ARIZONA (-10.5) vs. Arizona State

The exact opposite of last year's situation. If ASU can pull the upset they become bowl eligible. In an interesting subplot, Rose Bowl officials are _really_ hoping that Zona loses here. If UCLA goes to the Fiesta, then the P-10 Rose Bowl berth becomes availiable. Arizona (should they win) will be 10-1 and top-10. Arizona is also the _only_ current Pac-10 team to never make an appearance in the Rose Bowl. The Rose Bowl would much rather invite Notre Dame, and if they snub Arizona the PR war could get UGLY.

#13 ARKANSAS (off) vs. Louisiana State

Looks like I got Arkansas and Wisconsin confused. No matter. By injuring Notre Dame's QB last week, LSU has almost ensured that the Domers will lose their bowl game. In gratitude for that, I'll pick them this week !

#17 NEBRASKA (-20) vs. Colorado

Rick Neuheisal is a fine coach, but obviously can't recruit his way out of a paper bag.

Saturday, 11/28

#2 Tennessee (-27.5) @ VANDERBILT

Pa chomp, pa chomp, pa chewie chomp !

Pick: Vols

#10 Notre Dame (+7) @ SOUTHERN CAL

If Notre Dame wins this one, you can just paint "BcS" on Bob Davies butt, and ship him C.O.D. to Pasadena for New Year's Day. If not, some Big East team could be sitting at home for the holidays. If this happens, the address you want is "[email protected]"

#12 GEORGIA (-3) vs. #18 Georgia Tech

Battle between the hedges with nothing on the line. Typical !

Pick: Ga Tech

#15 Wahoo State (+2.5) @ #19 VIRGINIA TECH

With loss here, Cavaliers likely headed for 0-11 in '99.

#16 Michigan (-39) @ HAWAII

Geez. Poor Hawaii ! Staring 0-12 right in the face, they get their last shot at a victory against the defending co-champs. Oh well, at least the weather's nice !

#20 Miami(FL) (+3.5) @ #22 SYRACUSE

If Miami wins (and we do as well), the no bowl can pick Syracuse ahead of us. Would be fitting irony I think.

#21 PENN STATE (-6.5) vs. Michigan State

Having already knocked off two top-10 teams in Notre Dame and Ohio State, this Gary Tranquill-led offense of Michigan State still must win over the Nittany Lions just to become bowl eligible.

West Virginia (-15.5) @ PITTSBURGH (Friday)

The Backyard Brawl just hasn't been much since junior grew up and big brother went on disability ...
