September 8th, 1996 Hokies in Trouble Off, On the Field On Friday, September 7th, the news broke about an incident that occurred the weekend before and allegedly involved Tech football players beating a Tech track athlete. On the field, the Hokies rode a rash of mistakes, injuries, and (fortunately) superior talent to a 21-18 victory over the Akron Zips, in a game the Hokies were favored to win by 38 points.
