Running the Gauntlet

Here's something that ought to put the fear in you. Tech's last four opponents are (in order) ECU, Miami, WVU, and UVa. Those are four great defensive football teams. Check out these NCAA stats, current as of last week's games:

   Rush Defense: (1)WVU (5)UVa (29)Miami (31)ECU
   Pass Defense: (1)Miami (7)WVU (21)UVa (38)ECU
  Total Defense: (2)Miami (4)WVU (13)ECU (26)UVA
Scoring Defense: (1)Miami (2)WVU (9)UVA (12)ECU

Ultimately, the last stat is the most important, and Tech's last four opponents currently rank in the top 12 in the country. Say what you will about the quality of their opponents, that's still great defense.

We'd better be ready come November.

A Peanuts Funny

I hope you caught Tuesday's Peanuts cartoon in the newspaper. If you didn't, here's how it went:

Frame 1: Charlie Brown and Schroeder are standing on the pitcher's mound, looking towards the outfield. Charlie Brown says, "There's no way we can win this last game with Lucy out there in right field."

Frame 2: Schroeder says, "I told her she should go out there and warm up."

Frame 3: Charlie Brown says, "What's she doing?"

Frame 4: Lucy is dancing in the outfield.

Frame 5: Schroeder says, "The 'Hokey-pokey'!"

Okay, so Charles Schulz doesn't know how to spell "Hokie." That's still one that you cut out and put up on the office wall.

Correction

I made a mistake concerning Robert Adams in my last update. I was talking about Carl Bradley, and I made some comment about Adams making his test scores so they can play together.

Reader Paul Johnson was kind enough to point out the error of my ways. Adams is a partial qualifier. He is currently enrolled at Tech and will have three years of eligibility after this year.

Sorry!

Boring Stuff

I've received a few more emails that I'm unable to reply to using the "Reply" feature on my email package. The following people, please send me an email with your official email address in it, so I can copy it and paste it into a new message and answer your questions: Tony Riley, Jim Martin, and "[email protected], @compuserve.com" whoever that is. The last person sent me an email saying that they couldn't access the new stuff on my page, and then they sent me an email saying that they could....who are you?

Again, if you send me an email, be sure to include your email address in it. I regularly get rejected emails because the Reply function won't work, for whatever reason. If you include your email address, then I can resend the message as a new message, using the email address you gave me.

One last note: due to the off week, I'll be taking the weekend off from Hokie Central (waaaahhh!) Check back in Monday or Tuesday, and I'll try to have some new stuff posted. See you then!
