News With Commentary by TSL Staff Tuesday, January 9, 2001 Reports: Vick Will Go to NFL Multiple media outlets are reporting that Michael Vick has called a press conference on Thursday to announce his intentions to enter the 2001 NFL draft. The first report was made by Greg Roberts on his radio sports call-in show in the Roanoke area Tuesday afternoon, and the report was reiterated during numerous 6:00 PM news broadcasts, including that made by WSLS-10's Justin Ditmore. Ditmore also reported that Vick is likely to be the #1 pick in the draft and will probably sign a contract with a signing bonus in the range of $10 million to $18 million. It should be noted that none of the reports I saw quoted Vick or even named sources, but Greg Roberts' sources are among the best at Tech. He is close to numerous insiders to the Tech program, including Tech football coach Frank Beamer and the entire Tech football coaching staff, and almost never errs when reporting on Tech. Roberts generally does not break news about VT-related matters until it is, as they say in the business, "a done deal." The Vick press conference will be held in Newport News on Thursday at 3:00 and will be carried live by WSLS-10.
