News With Commentary by TSL Staff Wednesday, January 24, 2001 Kevin Jones Verbals to Virginia Tech As expected, the #1 recruit in the country, running back Kevin Jones from Cardinal O'Hara High School in Philadelphia, verbally committed to Virginia Tech in a press conference today at 1:30. Recruiting experts around the country are reporting the commitment, with details to come later. By all accounts, it came down to the wire between Penn State and VT. According to Rivals.com recruiting expert Jeremy Crabtree, Jones was leaning hard to VT going into discussions with his parents last night, and appeared to waver. When he got up this morning, he took two jerseys -- one PSU, one VT -- to school with him. But at the press conference, Jones selected VT, saying that he just felt more comfortable with the situation at Virginia Tech, and that he looked forward to following in Michael Vick's footsteps and being the next great star for the Hokies. Jones also said that he liked Virginia Tech's track program better. |
