Monday afternoon, Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer announced that redshirt freshman Joseph "Ju-Ju" Clayton has won the backup quarterback job for the remainder of the spring. Marcus Davis will be moved to wide receiver for the last week of spring football, and Clayton and starting QB Tyrod Taylor will receive the large majority of QB snaps for the rest of the spring.

Beamer made the announcement on BeamerBall.com in his BeamerBlog. In the blog, Beamer also said that Davis was instructed to improve his arm strength, which still needs work after shoulder surgery last fall, and that he will be given a chance to compete at quarterback in the fall.

Clayton is regarded as the more advanced quarterback at this stage, with Davis (who wears Michael Vick's old #7) the superior athlete. In Saturday's scrimmage, the two QBs played those roles; Clayton finished 7-of-9 passing for 70 yards, with two touchdowns and no interceptions, while Davis was just 3-of-6 for 19 yards but had an impressive 62-yard TD run.

The Hokies will hold their spring game this Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Admission is free. The annual TechSideline.com Spring Game Tailgate will start at 10:00 in the morning.

2009 Spring Game Tailgate

OK, Hokie Sports Fans...time once again for the VT Spring Game. The team has been busy throughout the winter in the weight room, has endured the dreaded 6 AM workouts, and is busy sharpening their skills in Spring practice. It is just about time for the annual Maroon and White Spring Game. The least we can do, as fans, is come out and cheer them on, and what better way to get in a cheering mood than to do a little tailgating!

The 2009 Edition of the Award Winning TSL Spring Game Tailgate Party. Your hosts this year will be Pops & Co., knucklejunction, hokiebred, HFNVA and F4EHokie. Russian Hokie will be our official photographer.

Here's what will be provided:

Here's what you need to bring:

We will be cooking about 125# of pork, and it will be first come, first served.

Tailgating begins at 10:00 AM. Look for the white tents and the Hokie flag in the east end of lot 2.

This year, since we don't have a sponsor as in the past, we need folks to step up and help us out with the costs. There will be a donation jar at the tailgate. Please chip in and help us pay our expenses!

We're looking forward to it, and hope you are as well!!!
