Mines Has Good Visit

Fontel Mines visited Blacksburg this weekend for the big game between Virginia and Virginia Tech. One of the top targets in the state, Mines was on his second, and it appears final official visit.

“It was cold, but it was a good visit,” laughed Mines, who was hosted by Ernest Wilford and Noland Burchette. “I had a good time. The best part was probably the basketball game, when I got to sit and talk with some of the players.”

Mines has narrowed his list down to the two in-state schools, and has cancelled his previously scheduled official visit to Wake Forest for this weekend. The top in-state receiver prospect hopes to make a decision in the next few weeks.

“I cancelled the visit to Wake Forest because I have to take the SAT’s,” said Mines. “I’m hoping to make a decision in the next few weeks.”

Going in to the visit, Mines mentioned no leader for his services. The Hokies 21-9 victory over the Cavaliers did not do too much to sway him one way or the other.

“Not really,” said Mines of whether or not the victory helped the Virginia Tech. “UVa was the underdog going in anyway.”

With the final decision coming down to the two in-state schools, Mines mentioned a few positive thoughts about each school that will factor into his choice.

“Virginia is a passing offense, and I am guaranteed to get a lot of passes and playing time,” said Mines. “Virginia Tech has Marcus Vick, who could step in next year, and they said they will open it up, but you can’t really go on that.”

Expect a decision from Mines in the next two weeks. From the looks of things, Mines seems to favor the Cavaliers slightly, but has heard good things about Virginia Tech’s fabulous freshman Marcus Vick.
