Gordon Chooses Hokies
Corey Gordon, a 6-3, 205 pound strong safety out of Hargrave Military Academy, made a verbal commitment to Virginia Tech. According to Hargrave Coach Robert Prunty, Gordon was offered only a few weeks ago.
"He committed to Virginia Tech," said Prunty. "The coaches offered him a scholarship after the Virginia Tech JV/Hargrave football game [in Blacksburg]."
Gordon hails from Gainesville High School in Gainesville, Florida, where he played wide receiver before coming to Hargrave. He has excelled on defense for Coach Prunty, who believes the Hokies are getting a terrific prospect.
"He’s intelligent, he’s mentally tough and physically tough," said Prunty of Gordon. "He’s also very aggressive, runs well, and is a tremendous athlete."
The super-athletic Gordon has used his ability to become a main-stay for Hargrave’s highly aggressive and sometimes dominant defense. He will play the rover position at Virginia Tech.
Gordon will enroll at Virginia Tech in January of 2003, so Hokie fans can look for him to appear in spring drills.
