Maurice Reevey Commits to the Hokies by Will Stewart, TechSideline.com Monday was a wild day in recruiting, as Virginia Tech missed out on Olu Hall and Jerod Mayo in planned announcements, but were pleasantly surprised when Fork Union's Maurice Reevey called them up with his commitment. Earlier in the day, Mayo selected Tennessee over VT, and Hall selected Virginia over the Hokies, Ohio State, Purdue, and NC State. With Hokie Nation down in the dumps, TechSideline.com broke the news that Reevey had committed to the Hokies. "I'm headed to Blacksburg," Reevey (6-4, 225, 4.5 forty) said. "It was a hard decision, but I'd just rather be close to home, where my mother and my family could see me play. I'm looking forward to them having the chance to see me play." Reevey chose VT over Clemson. Reevey attended Highland Springs High School (Richmond, Virginia) before repeating his senior year at FUMA. He played tailback and some defense at Highland Springs, and sat out nearly the entire season at FUMA with an injury. Reevey is a high three-star player, rated the #19 linebacker in the country by TheInsiders.com (four stars), and Rivals.com ranks him as a three-star player. Reevey is Tech's 18th verbal commitment of the 2004 recruiting season. Last Friday (Jan. 30th), three-star defensive tackle Carl Howard (6-6, 290, 4.8 forty) picked the Hokies over Rutgers, Maryland, and NC State, becoming Tech's 17th commitment. For comments from VT commits Howard and Reevey, plus comments from non-VT commits Hall and Mayo, see our TSL Pass recruiting updates. For a complete list of Tech's verbal commitments, sorted by position, see our Verbals List.
In other news, the ACC and
Virginia Tech released the Hokies' 2004 football schedule. The schedule starts on Aug. 28th and finishes on December
4th, featuring 12 games, the BCA Classic against USC, seven home games, two Thursday night games (one home, one away),
and a late-season ACC feature game against Miami in early December. Three games are already slated for ESPN.
We will update the TSL site soon with the schedule, but please forgive us if we're a little sluggish, during this crazy recruiting time!
