Virginia Tech landed one of its top targets on the defensive side of the ball today, when Landstown High School (Virginia Beach, VA) four-star talent Deveon Simmons chose Tech over a slew of other major Division I-A scholarship offers. Simmons committed earlier this morning, per Landstown Head Coach Chris Beatty. "He actually just committed to Virginia Tech about an hour ago," Beatty said. "He liked their scheme for one thing. The Virginia Tech coaches did a great job recruiting him. Almost every coach had a hand in his recruitment. It was a true collaborative effort. Plus, there are a lot of kids from the Virginia Beach/Tidewater area down there. This is where he really wanted to go, so he wanted to go ahead and make his commitment." The Hokies like Simmons as a Rover in their defensive scheme. He is ranked as the #4 player in the state of Virginia by TechSideline.com and is a four-star recruit according to Rivals.com. Simmons has over 20 Division 1-A offers, and in addition to VT, was favoring Nebraska, Florida, Georgia, and NC State. For more on Simmons' commitment, see Chris Horne's TSL Pass recruiting update. The Hokies now have eight commitments for 2005, including 2004 commitment William Wall, will prep at Hargrave the next year and will join the Hokies in the fall of 2005. Wall never signed an LOI with VT, so we are listing him with the 2005 commitments. Click here to see Tech's full list of commitments.
