LB Hunter Ovens Commits to the Hokies
by Chris Coleman, TechSideline.com

Virginia Tech received their 22nd verbal commitment for the class of 2007 from Florida linebacker Hunter Ovens on Tuesday. He is the first Virginia Tech commitment for the month of August.

"He called coach Beamer this morning to tell him he was coming to Virginia Tech," said Robert Ovens, who is Hunter's father.

Ovens, a 6-2, 220 linebacker prospect, chose the Hokies over offers from Clemson, Florida, Iowa, South Carolina, Wake Forest and West Virginia. He runs a 4.5 in the 40 yard dash. Ovens recorded 129 tackles and 10 tackles for loss during his junior season in 2005.

Unfortunately for the Hokies, baseball is also an option for Ovens. Baseball America rates him the #21 high school baseball prospect in the nation, and there is a legitimate chance that he could be a high draft pick.

"If he gets drafted in the first two rounds, then he's going to play baseball," Robert Ovens said. "Coach Beamer knows this."
