Virginia Tech received more good news on Tuesday night when North Carolina linebacker Barquell Rivers committed to the Hokies. He is the second recruit of the day for Tech, joining fellow linebacker Hunter Ovens. He is the 23rd commitment for the 2007 recruiting class. Rivers, who measures at 6-0, 200, is being recruited to play the mike linebacker position. He had a monster junior season in 2005, recording 130 tackles, 14 tackles for loss and three interceptions. He also broke up 10 passes and recovered seven fumbles, proving that he always finds a way to be around the ball. Rivers is a three star recruit and #11 player in the state of North Carolina by Rivals.com. He plays for Anson County High School in Wadesboro, North Carolina. He has been starting at the varsity level since his freshman season. Rivers chose the Hokies over a host of suitors, including Clemson, UNC, NC State, Florida, Georgia, Penn State, South Carolina, UVA and Wake Forest. He was also mentioned with teams as far away as Arizona State, which shows that he was drawing national interest. For quotes from Barquell on why he committed to VT, please see our TSL Pass update.
