Virginia Tech head men's basketball coach Seth Greenberg added another prospect to Tech's 2007 recruiting class Tuesday, when the program received a verbal commitment from 6-6, 215-pound Massanutten Military Academy guard Darrion Pellum. Pellum becomes the sixth player in Virginia Tech's 2007 recruiting class, joining fall signees Jeff Allen, Augustus Gilchrist, Dorenzo Hudson, Malcolm Delaney, and Terrell Bell. Pellum cannot sign until the spring signing period opens in April. Pellum, ranked a three-star recruit, is a native of Hampton Virginia, where he played high school basketball at Hampton High. He transferred to Massanutten Military Academy in Woodstock, Virginia (about ten miles south of the junction of Interstate 81 and Interstate 66) this year and reclassified himself as a senior. He repeated his senior year at Massanutten and strengthened his academics, taking required math courses and bringing his SAT score up to 950. Virginia Tech finally offered a scholarship about a month ago, and Pellum chose Virginia Tech over offers from Miami, LaSalle, Providence and UNC-Wilmington. According to Massanutten Military postgraduate basketball coach Richard Moore, Pellum averaged about 20 points and eight rebounds per game, shot over 40 percent from 3-point range and over 70 percent from the free throw line. For more comments from Coach Moore, see our Tuesday TSL Pass flash update on Pellum's commitment, and for comments from Pellum himself, see this morning's TSL Pass flash update. Click
