Hokies Get Commitment from S Jeron Gouveia Stone Bridge (VA) High School safety Jeron Gouveia ended his recruitment early when he verbally committed to play football at Virginia Tech on Tuesday night. The 2008 prospect is Tech’s fourth commitment for the 2008 class. He joins wide receiver Austin Fuller, athlete Derrick McCoy and linebacker Bruce Taylor. “He committed yesterday,” Stone Bridge head coach Mickey Thompson said Wednesday morning. “He kind of knew an offer was coming, so he had plenty of time to think about it. Virginia Tech was the school he always wanted to go to. If you already know where you want to go, why mess around when you get the offer?” The 6-2, 183 defensive back prospect had also been offered by Stanford, according to reports. The Hokies came in with an offer from defensive backs coach Torrian Gray on Tuesday. Before Gray left Stone Bridge, Gouveia committed. Besides being a safety prospect, Gouveia also has the frame to put on weight and play linebacker, and it will be interesting to see what the staff does with him when he first arrives in Blacksburg. The son of former Washington Redskins linebacker Kurt Gouveia, Jeron had four interceptions last season. Stay tuned to TSL for more information on Gouveia and his commitment. Virginia Tech is also rumored to have a commitment from Stafford linebacker Jake Johnson. TSL is seeking confirmation on Johnson and will report the commitment as soon as it is verified. Click
