Play the Pete Dye River Course for a Chance at TSL Prizes!

PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE IN COMPETITION RULES!!

TechSideline.com is partnering with the Pete Dye River Course of Virginia Tech to offer TSL readers a chance at winning a free one-year TSL Pass subscription and great Virginia Tech merchandise. The prize package is valued at approximately $100.

We've been picking monthly winners to this point, but now we're going to pick one winner for each week in the month of September -- including September 8th, Tech's road game at LSU.

To participate, just play the Pete Dye River Course this month. Report your name to the PDRC staff, and at the end of the week, we'll pick a name at random from the group. The winner wins one year of TSL Pass and a great piece of Virginia Tech merchandise.

If you're coming to Blacksburg for any of the home football games, this is a great chance to play the River Course, and if you're local and are having a game-watching party for the LSU game, then play the River Course during the day!

Each week, in addition to a TSL Pass subscription, we'll give away either a Virginia Tech polo shirt or a Virginia Tech windshirt (your choice).

Here are the details:

  • Set up a tee time at PDRC. (Click here for greens fees.) You can do this online at RiverCourseGolf.com (ten days in advance only).
  • Play the course.
  • Report your score, name, and email address to PDRC staff (Keith or John if available), and tell them to include you in the TechSideline.com competition.
  • We'll let you know if you won at the end of the week.

DL Antoine Hopkins (2008) and OL/DL David Wang (2009) Commit to VT
by Will Stewart, TechSideline.com

One day after getting a commitment from Goochland athlete D.J. Coles -- on the day the 2007 season kicked off for the Hokies -- Virginia Tech received two more commitments, one from a player in the 2009 class.

Defensive lineman Antoine Hopkins out of Highland Springs in Richmond Virginia -- no stranger to sending players to VT -- committed to the Hokies for the 2008 class, and OL/DL David Wang, the brother of current Hokie Ed Wang, committed for the 2009 class.

Hopkins is the #23 ranked player in the state in TSL's Preseason Top 30 rankings and is Tech's 13th top 30 commitment so far for 2008.

Hopkins chose Virginia Tech over written offers from Syracuse and Virginia and heavy interest from Tennessee. He had expressed a desire to make official visits to all four schools before making a decision...that is until a few weeks ago.

"About two weeks ago, he came to me and said he thought he wanted commit to Virginia Tech," Highland Springs coach Scott Burton said. "He was going to call to commit, but he realized he could go to the game today and he decided to do it in person."

Wang, who hails from Stone Bridge (Ashburn, VA) High School, is 6-2, 293, and is a talented offensive and defensive lineman.

"For somebody close to 300 pounds, he is a great athlete," Stone Bridge head coach Mickey Thompson said of Wang. "He really does move well. Right now, I think his strong suit is on the offensive line. But he could be a college defensive lineman."
