On Wednesday, Fork Union Military Academy head coach John Shuman announced that his son, Mark Shuman, will make his verbal commitment to Virginia Tech at this Saturday's Spring Game. Shuman is a 6-7, 285-pound offensive tackle prospect, and the brother of former starting center Ryan Shuman. Mark Shuman is rated the #3 prospect in the state of Virginia by TechSideline.com. He joins fellow Fork Union teammate, defensive tackle Nick Acree, as commitments for the 2010 recruiting class. Acree is the #4 prospect in the state. Shuman chose Virginia Tech over offers from Georgia, Tennessee, Clemson, Virginia and North Carolina, among others. Shuman plays for Fork Union's prep team, not the postgraduate program. The head coach of the prep team is Mickey Sullivan, and he had this to say about his offensive tackle prospect: "There are several things about Mark," Coach Sullivan told TSL earlier this year. "Number one, you can't coach tall. He is 6-7 and weighs 280 or 285 pounds. He has great feet and long arms. He moves well for a huge guy. He is young and his upside is unbelievable." Like Acree, Shuman is a likely 4-star recruit when the complete rankings are eventually released. The commitments of Acree and Shuman give Virginia Tech a great start to the 2010 recruiting class.
