Athlete Jerome Lewis Commits to Tech
by Chris Coleman, TechSideline.com

Bishop Kearney High School (Rochester, NY) defensive end/tight end Jerome Lewis became the eighth Virginia Tech verbal commitment for the class of 2010 on Tuesday afternoon.

Lewis is a 6-4, 225-lbs prospect who chose Virginia Tech over offers from Pitt, Purdue, Syracuse, Minnesota and East Carolina. Virginia Tech offered last week, and it did not take Lewis long to accept.

"As a little kid I always wanted to play for a big school, to play for a big university that can help you get to the places you want to go," Lewis told TSL recruiting analyst Chris Horne. "Virginia Tech is a school I feel like will help make me a better person and a player."

Playing the standup defensive end/outside linebacker position last season, Jerome Lewis racked up 56 tackles and seven sacks. Lewis also played tight end, catching 10 passes for 348 yards and a touchdown.

Lewis is an athletic player who is expected to play the defensive end position at Virginia Tech, though the coaching staff indicated that he could get an opportunity at tight end.

"Virginia Tech was looking at me as a defensive end," Lewis said. "I'm still open to it, but once they told me I could play tight end I was sold. Once I heard that, that was it. They told me I could play tight end if that is what I'm most comfortable playing."
