Jake Goins Commits to Virginia Tech by Chris Coleman, TechSideline.com, TSLMail Breaking News, August 11, 2010 Virginia Tech picked up a big offensive line commitment on Tuesday night when Manchester High School tackle Jake Goins chose the Hokies over in-state rival UVA. Goins, TSL's #20 prospect from the state of Virginia, is 6-5, 285, and he also held scholarship offers from Clemson, Duke and Maryland. He was First Team All-Dominion District as a junior during the 2009 season. Goins is an important pick up for Frank Beamer and his coaching staff, as he is the first offensive lineman to commit to the Hokies for the 2011 class. Tech had already missed on Kiaro Holts, Landon Turner and Mack Crowder. Losing out on Goins would have hurt the class quite a bit, but the Tech staff was able to win out in the end. Goins' verbal is the 10th commitment of the 2011 class for Virginia Tech. He's just the third offensive player to commit to the Hokies, joining tight ends Chris Hall and Christian Reeves. For more on his commitment, stay tuned to TSL. |
