Finney-Smith Commits to Tech
by Chris Coleman, TechSideline.com, TSLMail Breaking News, Sept. 28, 2010

Norcom High School (Portsmouth, VA) forward Dorian Finney-Smith committed to Virginia Tech on Tuesday, choosing the Hokies over his other two finalists: Old Dominion and Florida. He also held scholarship offers from schools such as Maryland, Virginia and Wake Forest.

Finney-Smith is a 6-7 wing forward who could end up as Virginia Tech's highest ranked basketball recruit since Dell Curry. He is rated the #37 overall prospect in the country by Rivals.com, and #28 nationally by Scout.com. He averaged 19 points and 13 rebounds per game last season as a junior while leading his team to the state championship. He was the VHSCA Group AAA Player of the Year.

Finney-Smith joins three other highly-touted players who have already committed to Virginia Tech: point guard Marquis Rankin (NR by Rivals, but had offers from Clemson, Ole Miss, South Carolina and Wake Forest), shooting guard Roberts Brown (#105 by Rivals) and power forward C.J. Barksdale (#95 by Rivals).

The Hokies are expected to take one more player in their 2011 class, hopefully a post player. They are heavily pursuing forwards Mikael Hopkins (#79 by Rivals) and Adjehi Baru (#26 by Rivals). They are also still a strong candidate for wing guard Dai-Jon Parker (#57 by Rivals).
