Recruiting News | |||||
Thursday night (9/27/01), we interviewed Robinson (Fairfax) High School defensive back Cary Wade, a 5-10, 175 pound senior who received a scholarship offer from the Hokies at Tech's football camp this past July. Wade is not ranked in Doug Doughty's latest top 50 recruits in the state of Virginia, but Doughty recently admitted that was an oversight, and he currently calls Wade a "borderline Top 25" player. Wade is an All-Region pick by PrepStar. Wade is wide-open and has a top five of (in no particular order) VT, Pitt, Tennessee, Michigan State, and Syracuse. Thus far, only Pitt and VT have offered. Wade has the most exposure to Pitt, VT, and Syracuse, having camped at VT and Syracuse, and having visited Pitt unofficially. He likes Pitt's campus, football facilities, and coaching staff ("They're really down to earth people"). As for Syracuse, Wade says he "wasn't impressed with their facilities. They're spread out, and you have to take a bus to get from one place to another." But he likes the Orange coaching staff, and Syracuse is very strong in Wade's academic field of interest, broadcast communications. "I'd like to go into that, or maybe sports marketing." Wade has this to say about Virginia Tech: "I like that everything is right together (football facilities). I think I like a rural setting more than a city setting. But I need to get down there and see what it's like on a game day." He will be in Blacksburg for the Boston College, Syracuse, and Miami games, and he will probably officially visit Tech in December or January. Wade
is in no hurry to make a decision, and you can see why. He's got at least three schools (Pitt, VT, and Syracuse) that
all look good for various reasons. He has not finalized what five schools he will visit officially.
