A Big Thanks to Sponsor Advance Auto We here at TSL wanted to take a quick second to say thanks to TSL Sponsor Advance Auto parts and to encourage you to check them out and give them your business if you're in the market for auto parts and accessories. Advance has been with us for several months now, and we're thrilled to have them on board. They are the first of what we feel will be a large group of site sponsors that will ensure that TSL is around for years to come. But the key to keeping sponsors like Advance Auto Parts on board is for you, the TSL faithful, to give them your business whenever possible, to let them know that you are glad they're sponsoring TSL. If you haven't seen Advance Auto Parts' web site, yet, check it out by entering through http://www.advanceautoparts.com/techsideline.htm . They've got a great on-line store for parts and accessories, a store locator (if you want to find out where the nearest Advance Auto Parts store is), how-tos and tips, and promotional events like the NASCAR ticket giveaway you've seen promoted here on the site. Take a look. And for in-store services, we highly recommend their battery replacement service. You drive your car in, buy a new battery, and they'll install it and take away the old one for no extra charge.

Football News - Winter Workouts The Tech football team finished their 6 a.m. winter workouts this morning, and Willie Pile and Chris Shreve made it a perfect 6-for-6 in earning "Commitment to Excellence" T-shirts. As we told you last week in TSLMail, there are six 6 a.m. workouts over a two-week stretch, occurring on Monday-Wednesday-Friday of each of the two weeks. The coaching staff awards "Commitment to Excellence" T-shirts to players that it feels give 100% effort in a given workout. The player wears the T-shirt to the next workout, and as long as they keep earning it, they keep wearing it. Shreve and Pile were the only two players to earn a T-shirt every day. Congrats to them for setting an example for the rest of the Hokie players. The football team starts spring football practices tomorrow. They will have 15 practices/scrimmages over the next four weeks, culminating in the Spring Game on April 20th. The team practices every Monday-Wednesday-Friday-Saturday, with the exception of the last week, when they practice only on Wednesday before playing the Spring Game Saturday. Hokie Women in WNIT Semifinals; Free Student Tix Available The Tech women's basketball team (21-10) knocked off George Washington 68-52 last Saturday and Vermont 76-48 Wednesday to surge into the semfinals of the WNIT. The Hokies will host 24-7 Houston out of Conference USA Saturday night at Cassell Coliseum at 7 p.m. The big news is that three Tech alumni purchased a total of 1,500 student tickets at $4 apiece and are giving those tickets away free to students. Simply show up at Cassell Coliseum, show your student ID, and get into the game with a free ticket. For the Hokies, high attendance is imperative to providing the atmosphere and financial punch necessary to secure a home game for the championship, should Tech win on Saturday. Come out to the game, Hokie fans, and help carry the Hokie women to the WNIT championship! First Tech will have to get by the Houston Cougars Saturday night. Houston is led by 5-10 sophomore guard Chandi Jones, the C-USA Player of the Year and Honorable Mention AP All-American. Jones averages 22.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. She is joined in double figure scoring by 5-11 freshman guard Shondra Bush (11.6 ppg, 3.1 rpg) and 6-2 senior F/C Valerie Muoneke (10.8 ppg and a team-leading 8.7 rpg). Houston is young (they had a whopping 530 turnovers on the year, compared to a similarly-high total of 493 for the Hokies), and in addition to Jones' considerable skills, they have athletic post players who are raw but unpolished (including 6-5 freshman center Kiemona Harris, who plays 20 minutes a game and averages 5.4 points per game). Tickets are $8 for adults, $4 for children and students, but remember, the first 1,500 student tickets are free with ID. Tickets can be reserved in advance by calling 1-800-VATECH4. Will Stewart |
