"Chase has strength on both sides of the ball," said coach Bendorf. "He is certainly a tremendous offensive player. I think he is an excellent halfback, and that is what he will play this season. But it seems most schools want him on the other side, as a defensive back. Regardless, most schools consider him a top prospect."

Blocking for Anastacio is one of the best tight end prospects in the state of Virginia, 6’3" 250 lb John Kinzer. Kinzer is extremely versatile at the tight end position, something that coach Bendorf says separates him from other prospects in the region.

"He is an equally good blocker and receiver," said Bendorf of Kinzer, who caught 10 passes for 150 yards as a junior last season. "He has excellent feet and runs 4.8 in the forty. He is an effective receiver in our offense."

In addition to tight end, Kinzer also serves as the punter and place kicker for Robinson.

"Kinzer is a good kicker," said Bendorf. "I joke with opposing coaches that my kicker can beat up your kicker."

Thus far, Anastacio and Kinzer have been offered scholarships by over 30 schools, including Virginia Tech and Virginia. Anastacio also has offers from the likes of Stanford and Maryland while Kinzer has been offered by Penn State, Ohio State, and North Carolina.

Over the summer, Anastacio and Kinzer have taken many unofficial visits. A sampling of the schools each has visited includes Penn State, Maryland, Virginia and Virginia Tech. Despite the many unofficial visits, neither player has narrowed down their respective lists this summer, as they plan to focus on their senior seasons at Robinson.

"Both of them will wait to begin the recruiting process following our senior season," said Bendorf. "This way, they can take their time and concentrate on recruiting at the appropriate time. Both are looking forward to their senior seasons."

Both are fully qualified for NCAA eligibility, as they are excellent students. Expect each to wait until early 2003 to make a decision on their collegiate destination. Check in with TechSideline.com for updates on these two highly touted Virginia prospects.

Hokies Ranked #16 in the Coaches Poll

The USA Today/ESPN Coaches' preseason football poll was released Thursday, and the Hokies are ranked right about where expected, at #16. Miami is #1 and is the only other ranked Big East team. Boston College (#30 with 85 points), Syracuse (#33 with 66 points), and Pittsburgh (#52, 7 points) were in the "Also Receiving Votes" category.

Here are where VT's opponents appear in the poll:

Nine of Virginia Tech's thirteen opponents this year received votes in the poll. The exceptions were Arkansas State, Western Michigan, Rutgers, and Temple.
