January, February and March are the months that get players prepared for the next football season. That first year in the strength and conditioning program is key for a young player's development. The youngest group of players on the Tech team is the wide receivers, and they made good use of their offseason.

The Hokie wide receivers are, in a word, big. If the season began tomorrow, the top five receivers would likely be Danny Coale, Jarrett Boykin, Dyrell Roberts, Austin Fuller and Xavier Boyce. Here are their listed heights and weights for spring practice.

Those are some big targets at wide receiver. Four of the five are 6-1 or taller, and four of the five weigh in at 205-lbs or more. Though they all have good size, there is also good speed and athleticism in the group. None of them are complete burners, but there is a lot of good balance between size and speed.

This is also still a very young group of wide receivers. Only one of those five has taken part in a spring practice before. That's Danny Coale, who participated last spring, before his r-freshman season. The other four receivers on that list enrolled only in time for practice last August. They have yet to go through spring practice, where so many key fundamentals are taught.

Despite the fact that there is just one spring practice amongst all these receivers, they have combined to catch a lot of passes in their young careers.

That's pretty good production from a group of players who were all freshmen last year. In fact, Boyce ended up with a medical redshirt after injuring his shoulder. As a result, the Hokies will be fielding three sophomores and two r-freshmen at the wide receiver position this year.

These players still have some growing to do. For the first time, they will all be together during spring practice, and they should make some good improvements.

OK, Hokie Sports Fans...time once again for the VT Spring Game. The team has been busy throughout the winter in the weight room, has endured the dreaded 6 AM workouts, and is busy sharpening their skills in Spring practice. It is just about time for the annual Maroon and White Spring Game. The least we can do, as fans, is come out and cheer them on, and what better way to get in a cheering mood than to do a little tailgating!

• Chips, salsa, veggie trays, chicken, side dishes, etc.
• Cookies, cake, or other baked goods for desert.
• Whatever else you want to eat (But plan on sharing!)

We will be cooking about 125# of pork, and it will be first come, first served.

Tailgating begins at 10:00 AM. Look for the white tents and the Hokie flag in the east end of lot 2.

This year, since we don't have a sponsor as in the past, we need folks to step up and help us out with the costs. There will be a donation jar at the tailgate. Please chip in and help us pay our expenses!
