The Hokies are sitting pretty in the ACC standings right now, with a 6-3 record. They are one of just five teams in the conference without five or more losses in ACC play. That wouldn't be possible without some pretty good players.

Virginia Tech has some players who currently have a high ranking in some important statistical categories.

Keep in mind that all of these numbers and rankings are for ACC games only.

Malcolm Delaney is obviously having a terrific season, despite the fact that he has two injured ankles as well as a banged up shoulder. He hasn't been shooting the ball particularly well lately, but he's still managed to average 22.1 points per game, the highest mark in the ACC. Sylven Landesberg and Greivis Vasquez are tied for second with a 20.4 average. Delaney has an excellent chance to lead the league in scoring this year.

He's also getting it done in other areas. Delaney is obviously a terrific free throw shooting, and his ball distribution has improved this year as well. He doesn't turn the ball over a lot, he gets his fair share of steals, and he rarely leaves the court for the Hokies.

Malcolm Delaney is arguably the most valuable player in the ACC. The numbers back that up.

Dorenzo Hudson is also having an outstanding year for the Hokies. All in all, he is probably the most improved player in the ACC. He is averaging 16.3 points per game in conference play, good for seventh in the league. He combines with Delaney to form one of the most dangerous backcourt duos in the league.

Hudson has improved his shooting quite a bit. He is sixth in the conference in field goal percentage. He recently hit 9 of his 13 shot attempts in a 23 point effort against NC State. He also averages 1.8 three-pointers per game, good forth 10th in the league.

He plays nearly as many minutes per game as Malcolm Delaney, which shows exactly how valuable Hudson is.

Jeff Allen hasn't been the scoring threat for most of the year that he was expected to be, though he's started to come around in the last four games. Allen is 16th in the ACC in rebounding. More impressively, he's first in steals. Allen has arguably the best hands in the conference, and he uses them just as effectively on defense as he does on offense.

Terrell Bell has had a very good year defensively for the Hokies, and he is also a good rebounder. Though he doesn't crack the Top 20 in overall rebounding, he is still averaging 5.6 rebounds per game in ACC play. He is ninth in defensive rebounding. He has done a terrific job replacing A.D. Vassallo's impressive rebounding numbers from a year ago.

Besides paying attention to Virginia Tech's record, RPI, top 50 wins and checking the daily bracketology reports, keep an eye on Malcolm Delaney's scoring average. He's got a great shot to lead the conference in scoring, overall and in ACC play. That would be a major accomplishment for the program, and obviously a major accomplishment for Delaney.

All signs point to Delaney returning for his senior season. None of the NBA mock drafts have him being selected in the either round of the 2010 draft, and ESPN only ranks him the #78 NBA prospect this year. It looks like he'll be back for the 2010-11 season, his senior year. He'll have a chance to be really impressive with another year under his belt.
