When you play in 18 consecutive bowl games, you are going to see some good quarterbacks, and some future NFL stars. The Hokies have seen their fair share over the years, and they'll face another on January 3 when they take on Stanford and Andrew Luck.

Luck is possibly the #1 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. If that turns out to be the case, he will be the third #1 pick the Hokies have faced in a bowl game during the Beamer Bowl Era. Two others, Aaron Rodgers and Jason Campbell, were selected later in the first round.

Overall, eight bowl quarterbacks the Hokies have faced have gone on to play in regular season games in the NFL, though not always as a quarterback.

Virginia Tech went 2-6 against those quarterbacks, and one of those wins came against Woody Dantzler, who didn't even play quarterback in the NFL. Tech hasn't beaten any of the quarterbacks who went on to be drafted in the first round.

Against upperclassmen quarterbacks who went on to play quarterback in the NFL, the Hokies have only beaten Tony Pike of Cincinnati in a bowl game. Pike is currently a rookie with the Panthers, where he has started one game this season.

Here's a quick rundown of all the quarterbacks on that list.

Peyton Manning - Manning lit Tech up in the 1994 Gator Bowl, and later developed into the #1 overall pick in the NFL Draft. He has been an NFL MVP, an All-Pro, and he is a Super Bowl winner.

Scott Frost - Scott Frost was drafted in the third round, but he played defensive back in the NFL. His career spanned six years.

Chris Weinke - Weinke was a fourth round draft selection. He started 15 games for the Panthers in 2001. His last start came with the 49ers in 2007.

Woody Dantzler - Dantzler didn't play quarterback in the NFL, but he did return a kickoff for a touchdown for the Dallas Cowboys, and he also ran the ball a bit for them.

Aaron Rodgers - Rodgers was a first round selection of the Green Bay Packers in 2005. After sitting behind Brett Favre for several years, he took over as the full-time starter in 2008. He has the second highest quarterback rating in NFL history for players with over 1,500 pass attempts.

Jason Campbell - After leading Auburn to an undefeated season in 2004, Campbell was a first round pick of the Washington Redskins. He now starts for the Oakland Raiders.

Matthew Stafford - Stafford was a true freshman for Georgia when the Hokies faced him in the 2006 Chick-fil-A Bowl. He went on to become the #1 pick in the 2009 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions.

Tony Pike - Pike plays for the Panthers. He has started one game and completed six passes for 47 yards.

Of all the quarterbacks Tech has faced in bowl games, Andrew Luck is best compared to Aaron Rodgers of Cal. He has excellent size, and he moves well, though Luck is even more mobile than Rodgers.

Based on past history of how the Hokies have fared against first round quarterbacks in bowl games, Virginia Tech is going to lose to Stanford in the Orange Bowl. That said, all streaks are made to be broken.
