Earlier
this week, the ACC released kickoff times and television coverage for most of
the conference football games in the first three weeks of the season. Two of
Virginia Tech's games are scheduled to be televised, and a third is listed as
"to be announced".

Tech's opener against Appalachian State will be the first ACC Network game
of the season, and their game against Arkansas State on September 17 will
be televised by RSN at 4pm.
There was no press
release, so we have no explanation of exactly what RSN is. However, they
appear to be doing at least one ACC game per week, and have a 3:30 or 4pm
kickoff every single week.
To me, that's a good
thing. That's one extra ACC game per week that is broadcasted on actual
television, and if it happens to be a Virginia Tech game, that later
starting time is good, as far as I'm concerned.
The Hokies host
Arkansas State at 4pm on RSN, and that will be a big day for ACC football
in general. Clemson hosts Auburn at noon, and Maryland will take on WVU at
noon as well. Because of that RSN kickoff time of 4pm, you'll be able to
catch those two critical noon games. Also, if you're a local, you'll be
able to watch the two huge night games as well: Ohio State at Miami, and
Oklahoma at Florida State.
That's a huge
weekend for the ACC, and despite the fact that Tech has a game that day,
most of us will still be able to catch all the exciting action.
Virginia Tech's
September 10 football game at East Carolilna is still "to be
announced", but you can bet that it will be televised by somebody. A
noon game on ESPNU, or perhaps a noon game on RSN, appear to be the best
bets at this point, though it's possible that this matchup could turn into
a night game.
We already know that
the Hokies will have two Thursday night ESPN telecasts against Georgia
Tech and North Carolina. If the Appalachian State game is televised, it's
a good bet that all other games will be televised as well.
Tech has major
clashes in early October in Lane Stadium against Clemson and Miami, and
from a television standpoint those are two of the biggest games in the ACC
this season. UVA could be a decent TV game as well, depending on how the
Cavaliers fare this year. Marshall, Duke, Boston College and Wake Forest
sound like ACC Network games, or RSN games.
For the most part,
there aren't any huge conference clashes during the first three weeks of
the season. However, Maryland does host Miami on Labor Day in a nationally
televised game. Miami is expected to compete for the Coastal Division
crown this year, while Maryland probably has a better chance of knocking
Florida State off the Atlantic Division perch than anyone else. Whoever
loses that game is going to have to come from behind in the ACC standings.
Other ACC matchups
include NC State at Wake Forest (Sept. 10), Duke at Boston College (Sept.
17) and Virginia at UNC (Sept. 17.). Conference play really won't start to
heat up until the month of October.

Friday
Q&A, May 13, 2011
May 13, 2011
Recruiting,
facilities and Dominique Patterson's move to tailback are the topics
of today's Q&A. Recruiting is always a major topic in the
offseason, while the Patterson move will hopefully create some
much-needed depth and competition at running back.

Moves Forward in Enforcement, but the Process Takes Time
May 13, 2011
Over
the course of the last year, we've seen USC get hammered with
probation, UNC, Ohio State and Auburn under investigation, and more
media coverage of the corrupt aspects of college football than ever
before.

Forget
the "Package Deal"; Relationships Matter
May 12, 2011
Last
night, Virginia took a commitment from Norfolk Christian School
linebacker Kwontie Moore, a 6-1, 240-pound 4-star recruit that the
Hokies wanted, no question. What Moore's commitment to Virginia will
mean in the long run remains to be seen, but it's one of the more
interesting stories of this young 2012 recruiting season.

With
over 20 major FBS offers, Warren Central (Indianapolis, IN)

First
Round Picks and National Championships
May 11, 2011
Today,
we'll compare Virginia Tech's wins, overall draft picks and first
round draft picks with the rest of the ACC, as well as each school
that has won a National Championship since the year 2000. The
results show that while Virginia Tech is near the top in total wins,
and very respectable in total number of draft picks, the lack of
first-round elite talent is a factor that holds the program back
from a National Championship.

Q&A:
Tech's Newest Commit, Donovan Riley
May 9, 2011
Donovan
Riley loves to work. He is a workout fanatic. He is an excellent
student. All of this paid off in a big way when, earlier this year,
he received his first college scholarship offer from Virginia Tech.
Connecticut, Pitt and Vanderbilt would follow suit, but the 6-0,
195-pound junior decided to commit to Virginia Tech on April 30. He
goes in-depth about his decision in this latest "Q&A"
feature.

Spring Depth Chart: The Defense
May 9, 2011
Bud
Foster's defense looked improved this past spring. He will have a
very fast defense in 2011, including some major talent on the
defense line, at linebacker and in the secondary. However, it's
still a very young defense, and how quickly it matures and whether
or not it stays healthy will be the keys to the season.
