by Will Stewart, TechSideline.com

QB Bryan Randall had a near-perfect day, and Kevin Jones took a 43-yard run to the house against the first-team defense in VT's second football scrimmage. The scrimmage lasted 47 plays, with Randall and fellow QB Marcus Vick each getting snaps with both the first- and second-team offense.

Randall was 6-of-7 for 65 yards, no interceptions, and no TD's, with the highlight being a 24-yarder to Richard Johnson. Randall was sacked four times in his first five plays as he led the #2 offense against the #1 defense (the QB's wear yellow "no-contact" jerseys, and all it takes to record a "sack" is to touch the QB).

Marcus Vick was 6-of-12 for 45 yards, with a long of 17 yards to DeAngelo Hall. Vick hit six of his first eight passes, but then missed on four straight to end the day.

In the running game, Jones had a 43-yard TD run and two carries for 47 yards on the day. His TD came against the first-team defense and was the only score of the day. No other Hokie running back had over 10 yards rushing.

Nine different receivers caught passes, with Richard Johnson leading the way with two catches for 35 yards. In his continuing experiment at wide receiver, DeAngelo Hall had one short catch that he turned into a 17-yard gain with some nifty moves.

Defensively, free safety Jimmy Williams led the way with six tackles, and the defense had six sacks (two by Jason Lallis, and one each by Nathaniel Adibi, Darryl Tapp, Tim Sandidge, and James Griffin).
